Burglar alarm for flats: FAQs

If you own your own flat then you can install a security system anytime. Although you may need to seek the permission of any leaseholders or freeholders if you want to install an outdoor siren. Our starter bundle doesn’t contain an outdoor siren for this very reason. If you are renting you will need to seek written permission from your landlord before you install a burglar alarm at your flat.

Adding a burglar alarm or security system to your flat is just one of a number of things you can do to make your flat safer. Other options include making sure doors and windows are in good condition with working locks. Change your locks when you move in and get a camera for your doorbell. You should also make sure you have rental insurance or home insurance in place.

Technically, any property will be more secure if they have a burglar alarm. While any security system installed by a landlord will need to be maintained, offering a secure and safe property to your tenants is advantageous. If you’re a tenant and you want to install a burglar alarm at your rented flat, make sure you get permission from your landlord first.
