What is a monitored alarm system?

Criminals will always try to catch you off guard and with Boundary’s monitored alarms, they’ll never get the chance. Monitored systems offer two levels of protection. A classic intruder monitored alarm system provides you with an additional layer of protection, whether it’s from a security company or simply keyholder calling. Others give a fast police response to break-ins, keeping your home and loved ones safe.

Our standard monitored system uses an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). This ARC monitors your home 24/7. If an intruder triggers your sensors, your main hub will notify the ARC. They will investigate and call the police if needed. It’s as simple as that.

  • Alarm is triggered in your home
  • Hub notifies ARC immediately
  • ARC responds calling police if needed
  • Keyholders notified

See how it works in our fictional break-in scenario

To illustrate what happens when a burglar breaks into a home with a police response alarm, here’s our very own fictional scenario. Picture the scene…

  • 11:00pm

John is on holiday in New York. It’s 11pm. He’s fast asleep. Back at home in Manchester, it’s 4am and a burglar has targeted his home, breaking through the back door to get in.

  • 11:01pm

The contact sensor on the back door immediately detects the intrusion. When the burglar moves into the hallway he is seen by a motion sensor. Then another motion sensor detects him when he moves into the living room. At this point the Alarm has been triggered and the siren is sounding. John has paired his Boundary alarm with Philips Hue smart lights, which are now flashing red. The Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) has seen the alarm activation too.

  • 11:03

After not hearing from John, the ARC calls the police control room directly via a special line reserved for graded systems. It requests a Level 1 police response and requests police dispatch.

  • 11:04pm

Because John is out of the country, the ARC phones John’s nominated keyholder, his neighbour.

  • 11:05pm

The burglar is frantically looking for valuables to steal. The flashing red smart lights hamper his vision and he’s panicking because of the loud siren. He decides to leave empty-handed.

  • 11:10pm

John’s neighbour is waiting when the police arrive, and together they check the perimeter. They find the back door has been forced open, so the police enter the property to make sure there’s no one inside. As John’s home has an URN, the police know it’s layout and floor plan. This means they are confident moving around it. Once they confirm there’s no burglar the property is then secured. With the neighbours help, they seal they back door.

  • 11:25pm

John’s neighbour then contacts John, tells him of the events that have unfolded overnight. With his home now safe and very little he can do from New York, John’s neighbour insists he enjoys the rest of his holiday.

What are the benefits of a monitored alarm?

The biggest benefit to a monitored home alarm system is peace of mind. No matter where you are, you know your house is protected, your alarm will never be ignored and some will act, even if you’re on a plane or on holiday.

If you choose the Pro plan your home will be monitored 24/7. They will alert the keyholder or police if anything happens. This means fewer false alarms and can stop you from having to deal with the heartache and disruption of a burglary.

    Monitored alarm FAQs

A classic monitored wireless alarm system is monitored by a security agency to deter burglars. If two or more sensors pick up movement on your contact or motion sensors it’s relayed to our 24/7 ARC. They will immediately investigate and contact the keyholder or police.

A more powerful type of monitored alarm system is a police response alarm. These are systems that alert the police when 2 or more sensors are triggered.

Boundary offers both of these systems as part of our monthly security plans.

A monitored alarm is like a personal alarm that contacts the police. When the alarm is triggered your Boundary hub immediately notifies Boundary’s ARC and they will start putting processes into action. Boundary will assess the entire house and call the police and notify keyholders.

Police response gives a quick response to any suspicious activity. In the event of a break in, ARC controllers will immediately respond. They provide 24/7 monitoring for suspicious activity and sensor activations. Police will be called to your property if needed, keeping you and your loved ones safe.

No – Boundary’s ARC does if needed. The Boundary ARC double-checks every motion sensor activation. This ensures the police aren’t called unnecessarily.

If only one sensor has been triggered, it’s likely to be an accident. A Level 1 Police Response will be called if the movement pattern is suspicious.

All smart home technology needs regular maintenance. This reduces the chance of defects and ensures your home intruder alarm monitoring system is working properly. We include annual maintenance in our Pro monthly monitoring contract, so you have nothing to worry about.

Choosing the right system for your home doesn’t need to be difficult. The number of sensors that you’ll need depends on the size of your home. If you have more than one entrance door, you may want additional sensors.
